An apple a day makes a makes it all OK
You know that old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away..." well I'm pretty sure they were talking about this recipe for inside out apple pie. Probably the most amazing thing I have seen in a while that made both my stomach and mouth water and cry out, "YES PLEASE!"
I am not much of a baker or the biggest fan of pie, but I'm pretty sure we can put away our differences and enjoy this uber scrumptious recipe!

Wheezy does it...
I don't know if I have ever noticed this, or if anyone has ever noticed it, but I think someone mushroom stamped Lil Wayne's forehead...
I wonder if it was received while he was in jail, maybe when he was busy being someone's girlfriend? Or maybe he was the dominate one? Either way, that sure looks like a penis between his eyes.
P.S. That is definitely a booger... someone get this guy a tissue...

Excuse Me, Ma'am... I Think an Animal is Eating Your Finger
I mean I am totally digging the idea of this ring, but my first thought is that there is a Jaguar head eating your finger. If I were wearing it I would compulsively take my finger and make it RAWR at people.
Don't judge me...

Gay Memorial...Just for the Guys?
As an intern for Moment Magazine, we are given the opportunity to write for the magazine's blog. While this may soon appear on the site, I am posting it here first.
When taught about the Holocaust, we are asked to never forget those who lost their lives during such a tragic time. However, for some scholars, remembering certain groups may distort history.
According to a recent article by the Sydney Morning Herald, there are Holocaust scholars against a bid to include images of lesbians kissing as part of a Berlin monument dedicated to the thousands of homosexuals persecuted by the Nazis.
The current memorial, created in May 2008, is a single concrete pillar with a small window, behind which a video of two men in embrace in a "never-ending" kiss. Original plans were for the loop to run continuously for two years, after which it will be replaced by a video of two women.
According to a statement by Alexander Zinn, a board member of the foundation that maintains the former Nazi concentration camps near Berlin, such a move would distort history as there were no known Holocaust victims targeted for being lesbians.
Zinn continues,
How much persecution should one endure before a monument is raised in their honor? While it may be true that gay men received the brunt of Nazi homophobia, that doesn't diminish the discrimination and hardships endured by lesbians.
In concentration camps, gay men were forced to wear pink triangles to distinguish themselves from other prisoners. Though it is true lesbians were not blatantly branded or persecuted against, they were, however, as well as other 'asocials,' forced to wear black triangles while interned in camps such as Ravensbrück.
Believing that every woman, regardless of her sexuality, could serve the Nazi state as a wife and mother, the Nazis dismissed lesbianism as a state and social problem. To Nazis, women were not only inferior to men but also, by nature, dependent on them. In addition, it was considered easier to persuade or force women to comply with accepted heterosexual behavior. Therefore, they considered lesbians to be less threatening than male homosexuals.
Sure, lesbians weren't called out by the Nazi-revised criminal code Paragraph 175. Sure, they were allowed a certain 'legal immunity' for their sexual actions, but they still suffered. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:

Historical truth must remain the focus...Research shows that the persecution of lesbian women by the Nazi regime was not comparable to that of homosexual men.Zinn's argument begs the question: Huh?

Soon after Hitler's appointment as chancellor, the police systematically raided and closed down homosexual meeting bars and clubs, forcing lesbians to meet in secret. The Nazis created a climate of fear by encouraging police raids and denunciations against lesbians. Many lesbians broke off contacts with their circles of friends, some moving to new cities where they would be unknown. Others even sought the protection of marriage, entering into marriages of convenience with male homosexual friends.Regardless of the fact that lesbians were not being as systematically persecuted against as male homosexuals were, it still remains true that they were treated like second class citizens. Being forced to change or hide who you are is still considered persecution. Therefore, lesbians should be memorialized for their plight.

Baby it's FREEZING outside
This is what I look at when I walk down the streets.
You see that white stuff all around? Yea I know DCers aren't used to it, but that is called SNOW. If you weren't familiar with it before, you have 28inches on the ground with 10-24 coming tomorrow early afternoon.
YAY!
It was some weekend trying to live through that. I made the mistake of running into Giant to grab a some cereal and milk last Thursday night. I walked in, took one look at the 40 deep lines and turned around. Even the CVS next door's shelves looked completely barren.
With all that time on my hands, I needed to entertain myself somehow. So I did the first thing that came to mind.....
ONLINE SHOPPING!! WAHOO!!
Here are the lovelies I plan to get:
From Forever 21
Isn't this a lovely lace tunic? A beautifully delicate lace/mesh top with an underlaying. It will be great under a light blazer and leggings or with a nice pair of navy shorts with a bright colored statement necklace.
I love the elephant details. I don't know why, but it just strikes my fancy! Would that be cute layered next to simple bands. A look a la Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
And better yet, Forever 21 does something they hardly do: COUPON CODE!! Use "ILOVE21" to give you 10% on all orders $40+. Also, enjoy free shipping on all orders $75+
From Urban Original
I love these boots. While I would love a more expensive version, the winter boot season is ending and so there is a very limited time to wear these. Also, there is a lot of hesitation on whether this style will make it to the next season. I have my fingers crossed, but until we have confirmation boots for under $30 will be a great win regardless.
In addition: we have a 15% off coupon "VALENTINE" (coupon expires 2/14/10)
To check them out on a real girl and styled check out the ever fantastic and fashionable Natalie at fashion, food and other assorted frivolity
Well, I just popped a couple of sleeping pills in hopes of knocking myself out sooner than I could naturally. Tomorrow is a big day, deadline for the next issue of Moment Magazine is this week and we still have a lot of work to do. I will need all the beauty sleep I can get.

::Cough Cough:: I think I'm sick
I don't know if it is stress, the absolute laziness I have encountered due to a lovely new visitor (thanks, Aunt Flo; way to welcome the New Year) or if that cold everyone around me has had finally caught me.
So 1 week in to 2010 and I have yet to work on any of my goals for the year. That is very sad. I feel like such a whiner, but it is my own fault. Bad Talia, bad bad Talia.
But things will (hopefully) change. Tomorrow I will start a workout plan by joining some co-workers in a little Insanity workout. Yippee, look what I am getting myself into: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9zWkzF32ZU&feature=related. Maybe this will be the kick in the ass I need to get things started. Then I can parlay tomorrow's workout to the next day with a nice, fresh home cooked meal instead of this wham, bam super fast, convenient meals which I have become accustomed.
The bright spot this week has been and will always be the lovely boy (baby, take a bow) and my friends. I had a little girls night yesterday.
Although both Amy Adams are absolutely adorable by themselves, together there as little chemistry which made for quite a forgettable movie.
For tonight's entertainment I am lucky enough to enjoy the sneak peak of Lovely Bones with Carolyn, whom I haven't seen since for quite some time.

Lovely Lazy Tuesday
Sometimes there is no better way to spend a day than waking up late, having a long deli lunch with an old friend, bad TV and the hopes of drinking into the early hours. Ahh how I love vacation days.
As I wind up a long and fantastic 2 weeks holiday vacation in Michigan I can't help but get a little antsy to make my way back home.
I would say the only way this day could be anymore relaxing are with a few of my favorite things:
As I wind up a long and fantastic 2 weeks holiday vacation in Michigan I can't help but get a little antsy to make my way back home.
I would say the only way this day could be anymore relaxing are with a few of my favorite things:
A lovely fully body massage
Sitting (or laying) on a beautiful warm, white sandy beach
Taking a long, hot bath while reading a good book
Cuddling with my boy
The delicious mint chocolate truffel by the chocolate decadence that is Godiva (Doesn't your mouth just water just looking at it?)
Just an hour of one or all of these things is enough to boost anyone's mood.
What do you say, what would make this day for you?
